Tourists to the Mekong Delta province of An Giang now can enjoy the scenery of Mount Cam more easily as a cable car service launched on February 14 will carry them to the peak in just eight minutes.

The 3.5km-long facility comprises 89 cars which are able to carry 2,000 people every hour. It is the first cable car system in the Mekong Delta and the second longest one in Viet Nam.

It was built over the past year at a cost of 300 billion VND (14.28 million USD) by France’s Poma Company, said Le Minh Hung, General Director of the project owner - An Giang Tourism Development Joint Stock Company.

Also called Thien Cam Son, the 710m-high Mount Cam is located at the heart of the That Son (Seven Mounts) range in An Hao commune, Tinh Bien district. It is home to religious facilities such as Van Linh and Phat Lon (Big Buddha) pagodas along with natural beauties like Thanh Long Lake, Thuy Liem Cave, and Ong The Cave.

The mount, attracting over 3 million visitors every year, was recognised as one of the five typical tourist sites of the Mekong Delta by the region’s Tourism Association.
